"You can find my jewelry being worn all over the world by all walks of life, from people to pets, and in gardens too! Don't be surprised if you stumble by some of my jewelry in shops when you are out traveling in places like Austin, San Francisco, New York, or even Japan!

Interview with Lily of LilysGraveyard

My name is L!ly Monster. I am an Artist. Art is my air, I cannot breathe without it, I live and bleed creativity. I make jewelry for a living.

Is your name really Lily Monster?
Lily has been my nickname since I was living in California, at age 17. The name was given to me because I always wore a large bat necklace and dressed in black, people told me I reminded them of Lily Munster.

How long has Lily's Graveyard been in business?
I have been making jewelry and accessories since elementary school. I started giving my art as gifts for family and friends early on. I was selling hemp jewelry to retail businesses and doing string hair-wraps at festivals by age 15. I got my first website, LilysShop, in 2004.

What are the products that Lily's Graveyard sells?
Wow, the list is really endless... I make custom items. Lovely gothy jewelry, cute headpieces to doll up your lochs, and some clothing pieces. Tons of cool stuff to get you noticed! Everything is Custom Created, basic inventory pieces are all made to match. Everything is adjustable and can be made any length. All Beads are triple wirewrapped for security and beauty, loops are closed tight. The focus of my website www.lilysgraveyard.com has always been to offer carefully made fashion accessories that can be easily custom ordered such as;
jewelry; headdresses, headpieces, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hand flowers, anklets, foot flowers, belly chains, plastic DIY stuff, etc.
other stuff, too; belts, key chains, purses, tops, skirts, costumes, wedding sets, and so on.... see, endless!

What are the origins of your products?
As I said before, I have been creating wearable art since childhood. My mother worked in the Jewelry Dept. of Target, she would often bring home broken nick-knacks for me. My big sister always took me to the Library, so I found myself reading the arts & crafts books. By the age 17 I had graduated high school early and was traveling around California learning about the alternative subcultures. There I found Chainmaile! Soon after, at age 20, I learned the complex wirework from Alysin at The Nest (an artist co-op in the Bay Area). Im now 28 and Im making better products than ever before.

What models and clients have Lily's Graveyard catered to?
I’ve been honored by Cyndi Lauper's request for a headdres. Clive Barker used a piece of my chainmaille in a painting. The rocker Lizzy Borden got a Coif. Shifty Shellshock (Seth Binzer the lead singer from CrazyTown) bought matching bracelets for himself and his girl. Many models have worn my jewelry; Apnea, Razorcandi, Eden Prosper, Ugly Shyla, Szandora, Jill of Ultra Gypsy Belly Dance, quite a few Suicide Girls, and many other beautiful models.

What direction are you trying to take Lily's Graveyard to in the future?
I love to travel to shops selling my jewelry, and see the ever-changing fashion in the world. Im working on moving up to Ontario, Canada. As for my work, it leads me to where it wants to go, I am but a puppet to my creativity!

What are the negatives that you hear about Lily's graveyard..and how would you answer these misconceptions to make your clients understand Lily's Graveyard a bit better?
Well, I hear some people say things like; 'it looks too masculine' or 'it isn’t the right material' - To this I say; I can custom make anything in any size or material you tell me to, just be specific when making a custom inquiry. I really can make pretty much anything, and I promise I can make at least one item you'll LOVE!

What separates Lily's Graveyard from other DIY and alternative company's?
LilysGraveyard caters to individual customer's needs, going above and beyond, from custom designs to working prices, I do everything I can to make my customers happy, I even include free gifts with many orders!

How long does it take for you to put each item together? (basic product)
Because I make such a range of item this isn’t easy to answer... A large piece can take up to two weeks depending on what it is. The average jewelry piece takes me around an hour or two to complete.

+ I just worked with Lily! I can tell you that she is ultra-patient, highly photogenic, and very sincere! The kind of person easily worth the hundred-mile trip I took to work with her! Photographers are blessed if they work with her, but don't BS her; she's nobody's fool, either.

+ I just worked with Lily today and she is one of the greatest people I've met to work with. She's open to new ideas, and is simply a creative and unique honesty person. Rare to find in someone and makes it that much easier to work with people who are real and are just about fun!
+ Thank You Lily! Just like the last time we shot, it was great to work with you again. You are such a fun, creative person and you make it great for me as the photographer. You have such a positive attitude and are open to new ideas, (and spontaneous ones for that matter) People like you are the reason I love being a photographer. I just wish there was more people like you!
